OKC Energy FC announced on Monday it had signed Jamaican international Omar Gordon from Montego Bay United, pending league and federation approval. Gordon joins OKC after spending the second half of 2017 and all of 2018 on loan at Western Conference rival San Antonio FC, over which time he made 37 appearances, scored six goals and notched four assists. “Having watched him at close quarters playing for San Antonio last year, we always knew he was a threat against us,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “He’s big, he’s strong, he’s powerful and he’s got the pace to get in behind – great 1-v-1 attacking defenders. I think he can contribute goals, assists and really take the game to the other teams.” The 27-year-old forward made more than 125 appearances for Montego Bay United since joining the club in 2011, scoring 37 goals as he helped the club win the Jamaican National Premier League title in 2014 and 2016. Gordon has also previously competed on loan in the United States with Indy Eleven during the 2016 season, when he recorded three goals in 20 appearances for the club. In addition to his club experience, Gordon has earned 18 caps with the Jamaican national team and was a key member of the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup squad that reached the final against the United States. Gordon featured in all six matches of the tournament for the Reggae Boyz, which included starting and playing 90 minutes in the final in front of 63,000 fans at Levi Stadium in Sana Clara, Calif. against the United States.
