Roughnecks Add Jamaica International Midfielder Michael Binns

Tulsa Roughnecks FC Head Coach David Vaudreuil revealed today that Jamaica National Team midfielder Michael Binns has agreed to terms and will be the newest member of the Roughnecks, pending league and federation approval. Binns is currently training with the Jamaican national side and is expected to represent the Reggae Boyz on January 30 in a friendly match against South Korea that will be played in Turkey. “Michael is a very dynamic player who can play as a #6 or #8 on the left side,” said Vaudreuil. “His high-level performance for Jamaica in Copa America and the Gold Cup will be important as we look to bring in more talent and experience.” The 29-year-old has made 18 total appearances for the senior Jamaica National Team, primarily as a defensive midfielder. He played in five matches in last summer’s Gold Cup, a tournament in which Jamaica advanced to the finals before losing to the United States. Binns started playing professionally in 2009 and has spent most of his career in the Jamaican Premier League, primarily with Portmore United. He had a brief stint previously in the USL, playing a half of a season with the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2016. He is expected to arrive in Tulsa for the start of preseason training next month.
